The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of children`s executive function impairments and ADHD symptoms on self-directed learning capability. The subjects comprised 1,016 elementary school students in fifth grade and sixth grades. They were assessed by means of The Children`s Executive Function Deficits Inventory(CEFDI), The Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Evaluation Scale-Children Version, and The Self-Directed Learning Scale. The results were as follows: First, executive function impairments and ADHD symptoms showed negative correlations with self-directed learning capability. Second, children`s executive function impairments had a significant effect on the total score of self-directed learning capability and the sub-factors associated with it. Concentration, planning and organization, and behavioral and emotional regulation of executive function impairments had effects on the total score of self-directed learning capability. Third, children`s ADHD symptoms had significant effects on the total score of self-directed learning capability and sub-factors associated with it. Inattention and impulsivity of ADHD symptoms had effects on the total score of self-directed learning capability. This study confirmed the effects of children`s executive function impairments and ADHD symptoms on self-directed learning capability.
